The Untold Secret to Overcoming Disease: Regulating Your Nervous System

I’m starting my 3rd week of cancer stem cell targeting treatments here at Hope4Cancer in Cancún, Mexico and I have so much to share that I don’t even know where to begin.

I figured I’d tackle the part that most people don’t even talk about. For sure conventional medical doctors would never tell you this; but you know I will! 😉

What no one tells you is that the root of all dis-ease in the body is a dysregulated nervous system.

Let me explain.
We’ve been told that disease stems from germs, bacteria, viruses, and the really savvy doctors will tell you the root cause is inflammation.

That’s true to an extent.

Those all contribute to disease developing in the body, but if your immune system is functioning properly, it should be able to identify all the creepy crawlies and eliminate them before they get out of control.

But a dysregulated nervous system can make that almost impossible.

A dysregulated nervous system is a state of imbalance between the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) systems. [Keep reading for 3 strategies to regulate]

Your nervous system can become dysregulated through poor nutrition/sleep, unresolved emotional trauma, chronic stress, genetics or environmental factors.

When you’re in a chronic state of fight or flight your brain sends signals to release cortisol, a hormone that is necessary to help you handle stressful situations.

When your body is in this state, it sends more distress signals which leads to inflammation, which leads to disease.

This is a very simplified explanation. But I wanted to give you some background, because one thing I’ve learned in this nearly 5 year journey after breast cancer is that regulating your nervous system is critical to your health, wealth and well-being.

Once you’re in the habit of regulating your nervous system, the key to maintaining a strong, healthy immune system is:

Hydration, detoxification, nutrition, movement, supplementation, rest, & a foundation of faith.

Today I’m going to give you a few of my favorite nervous system regulation strategies.

My Top 3 Nervous System Regulation Strategies:

Upgrade Your Hydration 🚰 – Proper hydration optimizes brain function which helps your nervous system to easily communicate with your body. It also helps with detoxification, increases alertness, improves memory, focus, attention and so much more!

And drinking molecular hydrogen ionized water creates even more benefits because ionized water eliminates free radicals, reduces inflammation and helps with chronic diseases.

Move Your Body 💃 – If you’ve been following along my Instagram stories as I’ve documented my journey here in Mexico over the last 2 weeks, then you’ve likely seen my oceanfront morning dance parties.

This is by far one of my favorite ways to regulate the nervous system. Some mornings I am jumping up and down, singing at the top of my lungs. Other days I put on a slow jam and gently sway to the melody.

The reason this is so effective is because movement helps stimulate the production of serotonin and helps develop new neural connections, especially in regions involved in executive function, and long-term memory. Additionally, movement stimulates the lymphatic system which gives your body a nice bit of support in detoxification.

Active Rest 🛏️ – If you’re carrying a lot on your plate, have a history of trauma or are on the verge of burnout (or want to prevent burnout), this one is for you.

Lay on your back with your palms face down. Slowly bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the bed/floor.

Take a few, gentle, deep diaphragmatic breaths. Next, slowly let your knees gently fall to one side of your body (just as far as feels easy and comfortable), and then switch and rock your knees to the other side.

Repeat a few times, being as gentle and kind with yourself as possible. Finish by extending your legs flat, placing one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly and taking a few more soft breaths.

p.s. it’s totally fine if you fall asleep! 😉

A FINAL THOUGHT FOR TODAY…

The Bible says, “By His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) That means that you and I are already healed. So no matter what the doctor report says or the symptoms you might be experiencing, I want to encourage you to stand on God’s word and declare you are already healed.

Then DO YOUR PART! We have a responsibility to take action in addition to having faith. So take care of yourself. I’ll be here to share in the journey and I’ll keep sharing as much as I can each week to help you create a legacy of
